Knox Boxes To Be Demolished In College Park
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- An off-campus institution with a rowdy reputation at the University of Maryland is slated for demolition.
Tenants of the Knox Box apartments in College Park have until Nov. 30 to move out of the units. They are scheduled for demolition to be replaced with a new mixed-use development dubbed Terrapin Row.
Local media partners report that Toll Brothers Inc. has closed a deal to acquire the Knox Boxes, and is encouraging residents to move out early. Residents received emails this week offering gift cards of $500 or $750 if they move out this month.
The aging Knox Boxes, easily recognized by the boxy appearance of the duplex-style apartments, are largely inhabited by students and for decades have been known for hosting some of the school's wildest parties.
