Killer Remains At Large After Postal Worker Fatally Shot In Landover
LANDOVER, Md. (WJZ) -- Prince George's County Police retrace the route of a murdered postal worker. Someone shot and killed Tyson Barnette while he delivered mail in a Landover neighborhood.

Police are going over every step Barnette took on his postal route, hoping it will lead them to the person who pulled the trigger.
Prince George's County Police are hunting the killer of U.S. postal worker Tyson Barnette Saturday morning. Officers retraced his weekend evening route. And with U.S. postal inspectors in toe, fliers were handed out to residents for information about the person who pulled the trigger.
"Hopefully, there's someone that knows something. It may not be something that happened right immediately before he was killed or right after he was killed. It may have occurred on another day," said Frank Schissler, U.S. Postal Inspector.
Barnette, a 26-year-old Upper Marlboro native, was fatally shot while delivering mail in a Landover neighborhood a week earlier. While the murder has some residents on edge, others say it's not stopping their daily routine.
"No, not really," one resident said.
A holiday wreath marks the spot where Barnette lost his life. Police say it's unclear who pulled the trigger or why he was even a target -- something those who are close to the victim are hoping will get answered.
"It would be very imperative to get this family, the Barnette family, some closure here," said Nicole Hubbard, Prince George's County Police.
U.S. postal inspectors say there have been at least two other workers killed on the job in the last four years across the country -- a statistic Barnette's colleagues, who remembered him at a candlelight vigil this week, are hoping will change.
"If anybody knows something, I wish they would please come and say something, tell something, say what you seen. Anything!" said Sonja Carmichael, U.S. postal worker.
In the meantime, police are exploring all possible motives, including robbery.
This crime is a federal offense that could lead to the death penalty.
There is a $125,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information about the murder should call the Prince George's County Police Department at 301-772-4925.
