WJZ Investigation Update: Kenyan Extradited To Baltimore In Alleged Elder Abuse Caught On Tape
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—There's a major break in the case against a fugitive wanted in Baltimore for beating a 90-year-old man.
WJZ first brought you this story five years ago.
Mary Bubala reports now the FBI and Baltimore City Police announced they're bringing the suspect back from Nairobi, Kenya to face justice here.
The elder abuse was caught on tape. John Taylor, 90, was beaten by his caretaker.
Anastacia Oluoch, 59, was charged in 2007 with abuse, assault and reckless endangerment. But she jumped bail and fled to Africa, hiding out there for years until Kenyan police caught up with her.
The victim's daughter is pushing for a Maryland law in her dad's name.
It would stiffen penalties for elder abuse and restrict bail.
"It's not just about my dad, it's about everyone's father, mother or grandparent or other loved ones and their families," said Jaki Taylor, daughter. "It can happen to anyone at anytime. We need to put things in place that protect all of us."
For the past five years, Baltimore police detectives and FBI agents have been working through international criminal justice channels to bring Oluoch back to Baltimore to face prosecution.
FBI agents and members of the Baltimore Police Warrant Apprehension Task Force have traveled to Kenya to transport the suspect back to Baltimore.
Oluoch will be brought into police headquarters around 6 p.m. Thursday.
