Kentucky Derby Winner Arrives In Baltimore To Prepare For Preakness
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—After galloping down the stretch to victory at Churchill Downs, the winner of the Kentucky Derby is in Maryland getting ready for the Preakness.
Jessica Kartalija has more on the excitement.
Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another flew into BWI-Marshall before being escorted by city police to Pimlico racetrack.
The early arrival is a big boost for Pimlico Race Course, creating excitement two weeks before the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes.
"Doug O'Neill had success at the Derby training at Churchill Downs. He wanted to get here as early as possible and have the horse familiar with Pimlico. We're glad to have him," said Mike Gathagan, Maryland Jockey Club.
After winning the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, his trainer set his sights on the second jewel of the Triple Crown.
"I just had a really good feeling this colt could handle all that, and he proved me right," O'Neill said.
I'll Have Another is resting and it's unlikely the horse will hit the track at Pimlico until Wednesday.
