Kennedy Center Opens New Take On 'The Guardsman'
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Kennedy Center is opening its new adaptation of the 1910 play "The Guardsman" nearly 90 years after the original show's debut on Broadway.
The play by Ferenc Molnar officially opens Thursday at the Kennedy Center. The comedy tells the story of a newlywed husband who disguises himself as a guardsman to test whether his wife would cheat on him.
The Kennedy Center is giving the show a new translation by Richard Nelson as its major spring theatrical production. The show stars Finn Wittrock, Sarah Wayne Callies, Julie Halston and Shuler Hensley.
The 1924 Broadway production featured husband and wife acting team Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in their first-ever collaboration. In 1931, it was adapted for the screen, again featuring Lunt and Fontanne.
"The Guardsman" runs through June 23.
