Justin Tucker: A Man Of Many Talents Lets It Shine
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's the kick that Ravens fans won't soon forget. Justin Tucker hit from 61 yards out, giving the Ravens a huge victory against the Lions on Monday Night Football. The win means the Ravens continue to control their own playoff destiny--and a large part of that is due to Tucker's incredible leg. And it turns out he's much more than a kicker.
Jessica Kartalija reports.
At 23, Ravens place kicker Justin Tucker has the world at his feet.
Now appearing in an ad for Dr. Pepper singing opera, Tucker goes way beyond the gridiron.
"I put a picture of my Dr. Pepper up and a couple days later I got a call from my agent saying, 'Hey, the Dr. Pepper guys called me,'" he said.
Not everyone can sing opera in seven languages. Even fewer can also add professional athlete to their repertoire. But only one beat making, opera singing, pro athlete is kicking game ending field goals and winning world titles.
"Everybody's got their own light and they let it shine," said Tucker. "We are all about letting it shine within the framework of something bigger than ourselves, and that's what's great about this group."
Tucker signed with the Ravens in 2012 and has quickly become a fan favorite, even appearing in an issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.
"Tying together the football and fashion worlds, I guess, was unique and it was fun. It was a fun day," Tucker said.
Before the NFL, Tucker played for the University of Texas where he met his girlfriend, Amanda. The two recently got engaged.
They were college sweethearts.
"We met in college at a bus stop on campus," Tucker said. "Eventually I grew on her, and five years later we are engaged. Now we are planning a wedding, a whole different ballgame, and that's a lot of excitement right there."
So what's next for Justin Tucker?
"I'd like to win another Super Bowl with this group of guys," he said. "For me, it's been about taking it one step at a time and enjoying the ride, enjoying the journey."
Several people likened Tucker's proposal to the show "The Bachelor," with the candles and the beautiful skyline in the background.
