Jury Deliberations On Damage Amount Continue In Midei Wrongful Stent Suit
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- Still no verdict from the jury weighing what damages should be awarded to a Maryland businessman for an unnecessary medical procedure.
Alex DeMetrick has more on what is at stake in this case.
It started when former cardiologist Dr. Mark Midei placed three stents into the heart of Glenn Weinberg. The procedure opens clogged arteries, allowing blood to flow to the heart. Midei says he saved Glenn Weinberg's life.
Worried he had severe heart disease, Weinberg cut back on his workload as a partner with the Cordish Company, ultimately leaving Cordish before its biggest project: the Maryland Live! Casino. Weinberg says he missed out on that project and its profits because his stents were not necessary.
It turns out hundreds of others thought so too, and the lawsuits piled up against the former owners of St. Joseph Medical Center and Dr. Mark Midei. The majority of the lawsuits were settled out of court.
The jury ruled last month that Midei performed an unnecessary procedure on Weinberg. It's now weighing how much, if anything, it cost Weinberg.
Monday, the jury sent out a note saying that it could not come to a unanimous verdict. The judge sent them home. Deliberations will resume Tuesday.
