June Represents Busy Month For Ocean City Police
OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- It happens every year: the start of the summer season brings an increase in crime to Ocean City.
Police department spokesman Mike Levy tells the Daily Times of Salisbury that Ocean City consistently experiences "a dramatic increase" in crime during the month of June.
Last June, for instance, police received more than 16,000 calls for service in June. That's more than twice the number of calls received in May 2012.
Levy says the annual crime spike is caused by the sheer volume of people visiting Ocean City each summer. Some of it's also due to the arrival of recent high school graduates celebrating at the beach.
Some crimes reported this month include an armed robbery last week and a stabbing of three young adults on Friday morning.
