Jordan Spieth Sports Under Armour Every Stroke Towards 2015 Masters Win
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- He's the golfer everyone is talking about right now. Jordan Spieth won the Masters in historic fashion, and his endorsement deal with Under Armour has put the Baltimore company in the global spotlight.
Marcus Washington explains what this means for the athletic brand.
This means more global branding for the company. Some people are comparing the partnership to Tiger Woods and Nike, and even Michael Jordan and Nike.
He's conquered the most prestigious title in golf, sporting Baltimore's own Under Armor gear every stroke of the way.
"He's literally the hottest sports figure in the world right now."
Jordan Spieth signed an endorsement deal with the Baltimore-based company Under Armour at just 19-years-old.
Now 21 and the 2015 Masters champ, Spieth's recent win has put the Under Armour brand in the forefront of athletic gear.
"It opens up a new generation of younger golfers, myself being one of them, even though he's even younger than me," said one golfer.
Many people say this partnership between Spieth and Under Armour is a sign that this is the brand for a younger generation.
"Under Armor now is the cool brand. Nike is what your dad wears. Under Armour is what every kid wants to wear out there now," said John Maroon, Maroon P.R.
Maroon and his company have worked with Under Armour on projects, but does not represent the Baltimore-based athletic company.
Maroon says right now the sky is the limit when it comes to branding for both Spieth and Under Armour.
Washington: "When you think of Spieth and Under Armour, will it be the same as Woods and Nike, Jordan and Nike?"
Maroon: "It certainly is moving in that direction, isn't it? You look at the way already that association is being made and Under Armour from marketing value perspective, he's getting value through the roof."
Keeping fans' eyes on both of the two hottest brands in golf right now.
"Jordan Spieth is an incredible ambassador for the sport for many years to come, and I'm excited to watch him play," said one golfer.
Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Marylander Kevin Plank. The company in 2013 had revenue of $2.3 billion.
Spieth first signed with Under Armour in 2013, but signed a ten-year extension with the Baltimore-based company in January.
