Johns Hopkins Hospital Regains The Top Spot In National Rankings
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— The Johns Hopkins Hospital ranks number one in the nation. The US News & World Report's annual hospital rankings are out and Hopkins tops the list.
Pat Warren has more.
In the heart of east Baltimore is the best hospital in America. This is the 22nd year US News & World Report has ranked Hopkins number one.
"We're just absolutely delighted to recapture that spot because we had it for 21 years in a row," said Hospital President Ron Peterson.
"Well, I work here so I'm psyched," said Rachel Sumrall.
After the hiccup of 2012 when Johns Hopkins ranked second to Massachusetts General, this year Hopkins is back in the number one spot with number one rankings in five medical specialty areas and in the top six in 10 others. The staff is getting the credit.
"Well, I think it's great. I mean, it's a great center. It was the origin of medicine the way we know it in the US," said Arby Khan.
"It's a wonderful honor, and I think Hopkins tries very hard to take good care of patients," said John Sperati.
President Ron Peterson says Johns Hopkins is also committed to its East Baltimore community.
"We take a great deal of pride in being a member of the community and being part of the area in which we live and work and so we're a major, major employer," Peterson said. "Many of our employees live right here in east Baltimore."
The methodology of the ranking may change from year to year but the quality of care does not.
The magazine also recognized the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in the top 10 children's hospitals in the country.
