Johns Hopkins Announces New Sexual Misconduct Policy
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Johns Hopkins University, one of more than 100 schools under federal investigation for their handling of sexual assault complaints, has unveiled a new sexual misconduct policy.
The policy, announced on Wednesday, includes existing procedures relating to handling sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking complaints, and introduces new policies. One such policy mandates that cases will be resolved by a three-person panel with two staff members and one legal professional.
All cases will be reviewed by the school's Office of Institutional Equity. Additionally, the policy expands the definition of consent to include that it cannot be given by anyone "unconscious, asleep, or unable to make a rational decision."
Johns Hopkins is one of 130 schools under investigation for possible violations of Title IX, a federal statute barring gender discrimination on campus.
