John Unitas Jr Announces Golden Arm Award

John Unitas Jr. joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to announce the 2015 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

The Golden Arm Award is awarded to players for not only their play on the field but their contributions off the field and are judged by their character, citizenship, scholastic accomplishments and leadership abilities. This year's winner is Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook who joined us via conference call on 1057 The Fan. The fifth year senior owns the best winning percentage in Michigan State history and has led his team to the 2015 college football playoffs.

Despite his outstanding performances Connor Cook still credits most of his success to the people surrounding him, "I've been so fortunate in my career here to be on a lot of great teams going back to 2013 and last year. It's a whole team effort. Me being so fortunate to throw to a great receiver like Aaron Burbridge who won Big Ten receiver of the year and obviously having a fantastic offensive line who I gave my MVP trophy to after beating Iowa just because they really gritted it out against them on the last drive. It was a full team effort but I'm extremely honored and blessed to have won this award; there was a lot of hard work going in and I couldn't be more thankful."

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio was also on the phone with us while Connor accepted his award. The proud head coach talked about his quarterbacks contribution to the team, "As Johnny U used to say, 'as the quarterback goes our team goes'. He has done a tremendous job in terms of leadership, playing on a big stage; he's been MVP at the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl and the Big Ten Championship game twice now so he has just been a guy that has risen above any kind of problems on the field and taken us to victory."
