John Rallo Recaps UFC 193
Shogun fight promoter and MMA expert John Rallo joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to recap UFC 193 featuring Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm.
Scott asked John if he would rank this fight up there with the famous upset fight between Buster Douglas and Mike Tyson. "It is definitely not Buster Douglas level because while people expected Ronda to win, Holly Holm is a world champion boxer and kickboxer. She trains with one of the top teams in mixed martial arts. Mike Winklejohn, her striking coach and Greg Jackson are partners at a MMA gym where Holly has been training for years. She obviously wrestles and they brought in an Olympic judo player to work with her on countering the judo. She has been grappling for years now, so what you really saw was a well-rounded mixed martial artist. Somebody who was able to stuff Ronda's takedown attempts and was able to counter her physicality. Ronda normally would just rush in, physically overwhelm her opponents, throw them, get them in her world and beat them but Holly was physically superior to Ronda."
Scott later asked John at the possibility of a rematch between the two fighters. "Personally, if I was Dana (White), the last thing I would do is a rematch. There was nothing in that fight that showed me Ronda is ready to beat Holly Holm any time soon. She has a lot of work to do on her strategy and on her striking and angles. I really believe she has got to work on takedowns. To me, she is not going to be able to physically clench Holly and throw her. You are not able to use your Judo when you are up against the fence to the full extent because throws and things need room for Ronda to push her hips through, and she can't hip through the fence. Ronda said before this fight that she was going to take some time off. I think she deserves to have some time off, she has been so busy on the movie scene, on the promotional scene, and she has fought at least 4 or 5 times in the last year. I think she needs a little time off. I think that Holly is going to be great for the sport."
