John Griffin Named O'Malley's New Chief Of Staff
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The secretary of Maryland's Department of Natural Resources will become the new chief of staff to Gov. Martin O'Malley.
John Griffin was announced Thursday as the replacement for Matthew Gallagher, who left to lead a philanthropic organization.
Griffin has served as DNR secretary since 2007. He also held the job from 1995-1999 under then-Gov. Parris Glendening and has led the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.
O'Malley, a Democrat, says Griffin "has been at the heart and soul of Maryland's environmental agenda." Griffin says he's excited about the opportunity to serve as the governor's chief of staff.
Deputy DNR secretary Joseph Gill will replace Griffin at that agency.
