Joe Giglio Previews The World Series
Joe Giglio from MLB Insider joins The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn and Femi to talk about upcoming World Series. Game 1 of the World Series will begin tomorrow with the San Francisco Giants taking on the Kansas City Royals in Kansas City, Missouri. Both teams are strong defensively and made plenty of highlights in the divisional and championship series. Giglio says, "It looks like a good series from what I've seen. I don't have a very strong feeling about either team."
When looking at the Bullpen, it is another close comparison. The Giants bullpen seems to be "underrated" according to Giglio. "They have different styles," between the two teams. The Royals have a tough trio with Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis and Greg Holland. Those 3 pitchers dominated in the late innings all season long. However, San Francisco has a unit that includes closer Santiago Casilla, and veteran pitchers Sergio Romo and Jeremy Affeldt as well as Yusmeiro Petit. "This looks like a 6 or 7 game series," says Giglio.
"The game against the Orioles was a tight series. You look and say it was a sweep, but it was a really tight series. I hope for the sake of baseball it is a longer series." The Orioles were outplayed by the Royals, but to say it was a shutdown series with no competition would be unfair. The Royals really had to play tough. They didn't win by any more than 2 runs throughout the series.
The Orioles have a few key players that are up for contract negotiations. Giglio states, "they can't keep them all, but as far as next year goes they will be really strong." With Cruz and Markakis "you hope they stay one more year." Nelson Cruz is such an integral part of the line- up and there's been discussion about open command. "I think he'll be back. I think he really enjoys Baltimore. I think the Orioles realize they need him and need his bat. The Orioles don't want to lose their identity of being a homerun hitting club." One could only hope that these key players WILL stay and Baltimore sees another playoff year and possibly make it to the World Series next year.
