Jerry Coleman: Battle For The Color Purple And Tomlin Reaction
The Ravens, following a much needed win over division rival Pittsburgh, look to make the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year as they currently stand at 6-6, which is good enough to maintain the 6th spot in the AFC.
There are a lot of things to takeaway, however the talk around the castle from Head Coach John Harbaugh was over the controversial incident that occurred on a kick return. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin stepped onto the field of play as Jacoby Jones was accelerating down the field, but as he was inching closer to Tomlin, the coach jumped back to the sidelines. There was no penalty issued for what occurred. A fine seems to be the more reasonable punishment for Tomlin's shenanigans, than a loss of drat picks. Harbaugh and the players joked after the game about it, but if the outcome had resulted in a loss maybe they would have been signing a different tune.
"I think everybody should be held to a high standard. We're in the National Football League. No matter what the issue is, I know that every coach in this league believes that, certainly. So, [I'm] probably ready to leave it at that," Harbaugh said.
It seems that the Ravens have moved on from what transpired with Tomlin, but the NFL is expected to hand down a hefty penalty, which could be as high as 100,000 dollars. In the meantime, while the NFL is trying to decide the exact amount for Tomlin, the Ravens will start focusing their attention on the last place Minnesota Vikings who come into M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday.
The 3-8-1 Vikings were able to get a thrilling victory over the rival Bears in OT this past weekend. The main focus that defensive coordinator Dean Pees will be stressing this week is stopping Adrian Peterson. Peterson became the 28th player to surpass the 10,000 yard mark on Sunday, joining the likes of Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and LaDainian Tomlinson, just to name a few. It will be a challenge trying to limit his explosiveness, but the 28-year old RB will be going up against a defense that has only allowed two rushing TD's all season, which ranks among the leagues best.
"I haven't really done the analysis of Adrian Peterson versus all the other backs that have ever played, but obviously, he's a great, great player. And it's not just him. They've got a very good football team," Harbaugh said.
