Jerry Coleman: A Great Team, But No Dream
After taking out Brazil, The United States Men's basketball team will play three more exhibition games. Then they will be heading overseas to Europe as they start preparing for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The toughest challenge for the U.S. might be Spain. They have a front-line featuring Paul Gasol, Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka. The USA team might not have the size but that does not concern LeBron James who says "...the team is smaller without Bosh and Griffin in height, but we are faster and we have guys that can play multiple positions so that will help a lot."
Besides Spain- there are other bumps in the road such as Argentina with its roster filled of international stars. That could be a very intense game for the U.S. and might mean trouble for Coach Mike Kryzyzewski's squad which is lacking in one major department- Height.
There are also some other teams for example France, Lithuania and Russia that can give the U.S. issues. France - led by the Spurs Tony Parker, stack up very well against the National team because they have as much NBA talent as any team outside of the United States.
Carmelo Anthony feels "that the team is preparing mentally and physically for the challenge and is ready for the task to win a gold medal." So we shall see if the USA will bring home the gold medal, just like the GREAT 1992 Dream team did , twenty years ago.
