Jeremy Conn: Who Do You Want The Orioles To Face In The Postseason?
Most Likely - Detroit Tigers...
In my Opinion, they are the most likely team the Orioles face. It means we run into Price, Scherzer, Verlander and probably Porcello. The Tigers starting pitching looks daunting but their bullpen is trash. Their starting staff hasn't looked great in the past few months, but they have 3 CY Young winners on their team. Should be an interesting series.
Possibly Kansas City...
If KC can make up ground on the Tigers, then the Orioles could face them. The Royals have an incredible bullpen. They have James Shields, Yordano Ventura and Jason Vargas as their top 3 starters. Former Oriole Jeremy Guthrie is there as well. They have lots of speed and a great defense as well. At times they will struggle offensively, and this would be the first playoff appearance for a lot of these guys.
Face the Wild Card Winner...
The Orioles could pass the Angels for the best record in baseball and end up facing the Wild Card Winner. Most likely the game will be played between the 2nd place finish in the AL Central and either the Mariners or Athletics or both. The benefit of playing the Wild Card winner would have to do with that teams travel and the fact that they would have to pitch their best pitcher in the playoff game.
Any way it ends up, it leads to a pretty exciting time in Baltimore.
