Jason La Canfora Recaps The Ravens Draft
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to recap the Ravens 2015 Draft and to go around the NFL with teams heading into mini camp. The Ravens addressed the Wide Receiver position in the first round by selecting UCF Wide Out Breshaud Perriman, Jason thought the Ravens would address another position of need before Wide Receiver. "By the time the Ravens pick came around, they were running out of players and personally I thought they would have gone for Byron Jones there and taken a shot at a wide receiver later, but there is so much need for someone to emerge as a weapon for Joe."
There were tons of rumors of potential trades in the first round from the Eagles moving up to the number 2 spot or even the number one overall pick. But it didn't shake out that way, Jason gave his thoughts on the lack of movement in the first round. "I thought the draft was a little anticlimactic. Nothing really happened with Adrian Peterson . It was kind of chalk, I mean, in the first 27 picks I think I had 26 of those kids going in the round, and 9 of them going where they went, and 9 of them went within a spot of where I had them going, and another 6 within 3 spots, so I really thought it was chalk. After that it was anything goes because beauty was in the eye of the beholder."
One player the Ravens were linked too in the first round of the draft was Minnesota Tight End Maxx Williams. Williams slipped all the way to the 55th overall pick in the draft. Jason broke down why Maxx fell as far as he did. "Maxx Williams, talent wise, there was a lot to like, but what people didn't like is his attitude, mentality, how he carried himself, and the stuff that came out of his mouth. He looked like a kid that needed to be chopped down a few pegs, and built back up, and the Ravens can do that. They've had a strong locker room forever where they've been able to handle different types of personalities. No one will walk in there day one thinking they run the place, it's just not going to happen."
