It's A Waterfront Life Kicks Off Holiday Shopping In Downtown Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The Inner Harbor is kicking off the holidays. It's a Waterfront Life is now underway. It's an effort to promote downtown Baltimore and holiday shopping with various street performers, family friendly events—and, of course, Santa!
Adam May has more.
The holiday season kicks off downtown Baltimore with a parade through Harborplace, starring Fifi the visionary arts poodle dressed as a reindeer.
"The pink poodle was awesome!" one man said.
And the star of the show is Santa.
"Merry Christmas, everyone," Santa Clause said. "Merry Christmas."
"He was like so awesome," one little girl said.
Confetti blasts through the air. Santa's Baltimore home lights up and opens.
"It's pretty awesome," one lady said. "It's a good time."
"I thought it was great," one mom said. "It brings people together around the holidays."
The goal is more than just fun. The Waterfront Partnership wants to get people downtown to spend money for the holidays.
"We hope they do some shopping, dining, visit the aquarium, science center. There's gift ideas at both institutions too," said Laurie Schwartz, Waterfront Partnership.
For a second year in a row, Powerplant Live is also lit up with a laser light show set to music evenings through the rest of the year.
"It's gonna be an even bigger hit this year," Schwartz said. "New surprises for people," and more free activities intended to attract a crowd.
