Irene Bennett Reid, Mother Of Former Mayor Schmoke, Dies
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Irene Bennett Reid, mother of former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke, has died at Sinai Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman says. Reid was 78.
Reid, who was the stepmother of the Rev. Frank Reid III, pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, died Tuesday.
Reid, who earned bachelor's and master's degrees, worked for the Baltimore Department of Social Services and also worked with a women's shelter and a transitional housing program.
Schmoke, who was mayor from 1987 to 1999, is dean of the Howard University School of Law in Washington.
