Investigation Finds No Evidence Of Spanking At Md. School

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County school officials say they've found no evidence that a teacher was spanking children at a highly regarded school in Greenbelt.

According to WTOP-FM, parents had complained that a teacher spanked misbehaving children at Dora Kennedy French Immersion School.

County school system spokesman Sherrie Johnson says in a statement that an investigation found no evidence of child abuse. She says parents were told about the outcome of the investigation at a community meeting on Thursday night.

The teacher who was the subject of the complaint is no longer working for the school system. The school's principal, Nasser Abi, has also departed. School officials declined to comment on why the two no longer work there.

Johnson says the search for a new principal will begin early next year.
