Inmate Stabbed At Prison In Hagerstown
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland corrections official says an inmate has been stabbed at the Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown.
Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services spokesman Mark Vernarelli says the 34-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in a housing unit at the prison on Monday night.
Vernarelli says the inmate was taken to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of wounds to arm, head and back, but his wounds do not appear to be life threatening. He says the inmate is serving 25 years for multiple counts of robbery with a deadly weapon.
A second inmate suffered superficial cuts to his hand, but did not require outside treatment.
Vernarelli says detectives are looking at several possible suspects and have recovered a possible weapon.
