Injury Report: Ravens Defensive Line Continues To Get Decimated by Injuries
By Samuel Njoku
If you're a defensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens, you're hoping you have some pretty good health insurance. So far this season, the Ravens defensive front has been absolutely decimated by injuries. This week is no different as a few prominent players may not see the field against the Carolina Panthers.
The Cleveland Browns didn't have to worry about rookie defensive tackle Timmy Jerningan last week as he was dealing with a knee injury. And with that injury still lingering, the Carolina Panthers won't have to worry about him either. The Ravens have officially listed him as out for the game.
His fellow teammate Chris Canty is also dealing with a knee injury that has kept him out of practice the entire week. He's listed as questionable for Sunday's game but there's a very good chance he won't be suiting up either. That leaves Baltimore's defensive front extremely vulnerable to Cam Newton and the Panthers offense.
Though the defense may be limping onto the field on Sunday, the offense for Baltimore gets somewhat of a boost with the return of RB Bernard Pierce. Though Lorenzo Taliaferro performed well above expectation, the Ravens will be pleased to have a proven back that can move the chains when needed.
Guys like Jimmy Smith were a bit banged up but practiced enough during the week that they are likely to play on Sunday. It's that time of the season where the Ravens are looking for the next man to step up. Lorenzo Taliaferro was the man to do so last week. Maybe another player will shock the franchise in Week 4.
Ravens Injury Report:
Out DT Timmy Jernigan (knee) LT Eugene Monroe (knee) Questionable DE Chris Canty (knee)
Probable OLB Terrell Suggs (thigh) CB Jimmy Smith (knee/ankle) RB Bernard Pierce (thigh)
