Injured Firefighters Still Critical But Improving
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The parents of two volunteer firefighters seriously injured while battling a house fire in Riverdale say their sons are in relatively good spirits and showing signs of improvement.
Prince George's County fire officials say Kevin O'Toole and Ethan Sorrell are in critical but stable condition at Washington Hospital Center. Their parents spoke to reporters outside the hospital Sunday afternoon.
O'Toole sustained burns over 40 percent of his body and is scheduled to undergo a skin graft on Monday. O'Toole's father says his son will remain hospitalized for at least 6 weeks and faces 6 months of rehabilitation.
Sorrell is scheduled for tests to determine the extent of burns to his airway. He is conscious and communicates by writing notes.
A third firefighter was released from the hospital Saturday.
