1 Dead, Traffic Backed Up On I-95 After Tractor Trailer Overturns
CECIL CO., Md. (WJZ) -- An overturned tractor-trailer caused traffic delays on I-95 Tuesday afternoon. The right two lanes along a portion of southbound I-95 will remain closed at least through overnight as emergency roadwork continues following the crash.
The Maryland Transportation Authority reports the tractor-trailer overturned on southbound I-95 near MD 272 (exit 100).
Authorities say the driver of that tractor-trailer has been identified as Delvon Jerome Dominique Crosby, 45, of Baltimore. Crosby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Just before the crash at 1:45 p.m., a trooper had pulled over a vehicle and the two vehicles were on the shoulder at mile marker 97 in North East.
The investigation into the crash found that the tractor-trailer hit the trooper's vehicle and the stopped vehicle, before overturning onto the shoulder.
The trooper and driver of the pulled-over vehicle were both outside of their vehicles at the time of the crash, and neither were injured.
Hazmat crews have also been called to the scene because of a fuel spill.
All lanes on southbound I-95 at mile marker 97 were shut down for several hours due to the crash. MDTA maintenance personnel were on the scene assisting with traffic detours. The left lane was reopened at about 8:30 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the area, with US 40 or US 1 as alternate routes.
