Husband, Wife Indicted On Government Fraud Charges
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- Prosecutors say a Lovettsville, Va. couple has been indicted on charges of an alleged conspiracy to defraud the government of $1.2 million.
Michael Strayer, a former employee at the Department of Energy, and Karen Earle, 48, were indicted Wednesday.
According to the 13-count indictment, Strayer, 69, started a magazine for the department and academic communities. He told the magazine publisher to hire Earle, then his girlfriend, as a consultant.
Earle's company was paid for articles that were provided for free.
