Hudson River Jetliner Rolls Through Maryland
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Marylanders are turning out to watch the jetliner that made a safe landing on the Hudson River in 2009 pass through their state.
About 40 people lined the Appalachian Trail at an Interstate 70 overpass near Hagerstown around midday Tuesday. They watched as a black-and-yellow tractor-trailer carrying the 120-foot fuselage crossed South Mountain.
The jetliner is traveling from New Jersey to the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, N.C. The wings were shipped separately.
The Rev. Justin Thomas of Frederick brought his wife and three young children out to see the plane. He says the "miracle on the Hudson" was a rare good news story that he hopes his children will remember.
State highway officials hope to get the plane to the West Virginia border by day's end.
