Harford Co. Baseball Team Makes It To The Cal Ripken World Series
BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ)-- A Harford County baseball team wins its way to the Cal Ripken World Series. There's only one hitch-- the high cost to play.
WJZ Eyewitness News met with the 2011 Maryland state champion team -- the Hickory Hornets.
And while these 10-year-old's are overjoyed about their recent win, their new goal of swinging in the world series is front and center.
The boys are now seeking donations to help fund the estimated $15,000-20,000 trip to Virginia.
"At the end of the day, it'll all be over on the 20th, and this experience will be a lifetime thought in the back of their minds," said Randy Spurlock, head coach of the Hickory Hornets. "So it's going to be something that they'll enjoy for the rest of their lives."
If you would like to help the team, a fund has been set up at the M & T Bank, 12 Office Street, Bel Air, Md. Checks can be made out to the "Hornets World Series Fund."
