How Many Running Backs Do The Ravens Really Need?
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore Ravens have had some very memorable running backs take the field in the purple and black and in the past few weeks, they added two more RBs to an already packed backfield.
So let's take a look at who the Ravens have on the roster and the possibilities of them being cut from the team:
Justin Forsett
Forsett suffered a broken arm last season, but the odds are it won't be a problem come September. He has been busy this off season working in Italy and helping the people of Flint, Michigan, making friends with his new teammate Ben Watson and being good philanthropist. Forsett's salary of $3.7 million is more than Allen's, Taliaferro's, Dixon's and Richardson's combined. It's likely he will be sticking around.
Buck Allen
Allen took over when Forsett was injured and ranked second on the team with 137 carries for 514 yards and scored one touchdown rushing, and also had 45 catches for 353 yards and two touchdowns receiving. He's an asset for sure.
Kenneth Dixon
The Ravens fourth round pick from Louisiana Tech has been getting rave reviews from experts around the league. As a senior, he rushed for 1,070 yards with 19 touchdowns and added 467 yards and seven touchdowns as a receiver. It's unlikely that the Ravens would let go of a high draft pick like Dixon.
Trent Richardson
The Ravens signed Richardson just before the start of the offseason workout program back in the beginning of April. The running back was bounced around the NFL for a few years with teams like the Browns and the Raiders, but landed with the Ravens and hasn't looked back. He has been working out and preparing for the season. His progress could be interesting and may earn him a spot on the roster.
Lorenzo Taliaferro
Taliaferro has been put on injured reserve two years in a row and he is certainly on the hot seat as far as a spot on the opening roster in 2016 is concerned. He was slated to be Forsett's backup last season but suffered a sprained MCL and was out for more than a few weeks. He could face a difficult training camp.
Terrance West
The Ravens re-signed Terrance West when the injuries last season kept piling up. There is no real reason to keep him on the roster if the top two backs are set to return and there's some fresh blood in the mix as well.
Competition will surely be high during the training camps with veteran players like Justin Forsett, Buck Allen, Lorenzo Taliaferro and Terrance West fighting to keep their spot on the roster.
