House Speaker Walks Away From Debt Deal
WASHINGTON (WJZ)—Debt-deal drama as House Speaker John Boehner walks away from the negotiating table.
Adam May has more on the battle.
A visibly upset President Barack Obama immediately addressed the nation, saying he's been left at the altar too many times.
"It is hard to understand why Speaker Boehner would walk away from this type of deal, and frankly, if you look at the commentary out, there are a lot of Republicans that are puzzled," Obama said.
Boehner defended his actions.
"They refuse to get serious about cutting spending and making the tough choices that are facing our country on entitlement reform," Boehner said. "That's the bottom line."
The president ordered everybody back to work at 11 a.m. Saturday, reminding them the default deadline is Aug. 2.
