House Panel Rejects Bad Driver Fees
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A House panel has rejected a proposal to impose fees on bad drivers.
The House Appropriations Committee on Friday night nixed the proposal Gov. Martin O'Malley included in his budget.
The proposal would have charged $100 per point on a driver's license above five points for three years. It also would have charged a $500 fine each year for three years for those convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The fees would have raised an estimated $5 million in fiscal year 2012 and $8 million in fiscal year 2013.
The House Appropriations Committee is working late Friday on the governor's budget legislation.
