House Explosion Injures 2 In Montgomery County
ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ)— A frightening blast. A house in Montgomery County is destroyed by an explosion and fire.
Suzanne Collins explains the couple renting the house moved in just two days ago.
"It was just boom, you know? The whole house shifted," said one witness.
"Next thing you know, we have like good 20, 30 fire trucks in our neighborhood," said another.
One neighbor ran out of the house unprepared about what woke him up early Wednesday morning. He says his neighbor's house was unrecognizable. His friends captured a picture of the house in a ball of fire.
"[There was] glass everywhere," he said. "Went through the back, I saw my neighbor screaming for his wife."
He found the man's wife and helped her to safety.
"She told me that they were sleeping and then he wakes up in his backyard," he continued. "Yeah, he doesn't remember."
At daybreak, you can see the extent of the damage. There was no home left standing, only debris between two neighboring houses.
The gas company is making sure there are no leaks. All power has been shut off in the 11200-block of Ashley Drive. But now investigators have to decide where to begin.
"And the sad part is they just moved in two days ago," said one neighbor. "That's really sad. These poor folks."
Fire and explosion experts are now going to comb through all of that debris to determine what caused the explosion.
The explosion caused an estimated $750,000 in damage to the structure and two adjacent homes.
