Hospital Wants To Move Sites In Montgomery County
TAKOMA PARK, Md. (AP) -- Washington Adventist Hospital is asking state regulators for approval to move from its Takoma Park home to a site near White Oak.
The hospital's parent company, Adventist HealthCare, will go before the Maryland Health Commission on Monday to present its proposal to move.
The hearing is one of the final hurdles before the 281-bed hospital can move. The hospital announced six years ago that it wanted to relocate from its current facilities, constructed in the 1950s and 1970s, to another site in Montgomery County in order to grow.
Other area hospitals oppose the move, saying it will hurt their own growth and hurt care for some of the region's poor.
The Takoma Park site would stay open after the move as an urgent and primary care facility.
