Horrible Winter Is Still Welcome For Some

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Spring is less than 12 days away, and most of us are ready for an end to cold and the snow.

Mike Schuh reports not everyone wants winter to move on.

Snow isn't so welcome anymore--or is it?

Some people make a good living out of what a lot of people see as misery in motion. In addition to state trucks, hundreds of private owners are hired.

"We make more money when there is a lot of snow," one plow driver said.

And there's been a lot of snow.

"Probably four times the amount of income as far as for the company, as far as income goes for the last two years this year," said Carmen Caltabiano, Green Scapes Unlimited.

Even those who can make this stuff are celebrating. More snow has made up for a couple of shaky seasons at Wisp ski resort.

"We do have numbers above last year, so everything is looking on track and we're hoping to finish the winter strong, even through the end of March," said Lori Epp, Wisp spokesperson.

It's also been a bumper year in the fix 'em up business.

"This has been one of the best winters we've had in numerous years. We are booking appointments out into April," said Mark Schaech, Mark's Body Shop.

There is money to be made, but even those profiting from the snow have a secret.

"About halfway through winter, you're like, `God, I can't wait for summer to get here,'" one plow driver said.

Take heart--for the next few days, temperatures will be in the mid-50s.
