Police: Hopkins Student Was Sexually Assaulted
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— There's heavy police presence in the Charles Village neighborhood where a Johns Hopkins University student was sexually assaulted in an alley.
Monique Griego has more on the alarm this case is bringing to the Hopkins campus.
City police are continuing to search for a suspect while Hopkins students are looking over their shoulders.
Police say a 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted Saturday morning while walking to her apartment.
"I'm shocked and it worries me a little bit," said Raissa Rosenbaum.
Police say the attack happened about 1:20 a.m. in the 3200-block of Lovegrove, an alley that students and others use as a shortcut. Police say the attacker told the victim he had a gun, although she apparently never saw it.
"We are confident that our partnership with the university will help develop a suspect," said Anthony Guglielmi, Baltimore City Police spokesperson.
Johns Hopkins says the university sent out a campus-wide alert about the attack.
"I'm actually in a sorority here on campus and so something happening to a fellow woman here on campus is something that we addressed," said Samantha Olafson.
Olafson lives right next to where the attack happened. She and other female students WJZ talked to call the incident an important reminder.
"I don't really walk around by myself at night," said Sue Lee. "I always have somebody with me. Or I just stay in the house."
All police know about the attacker is that he was a black male, 6'-6'2" tall. On the night of the attack he was wearing a dark hoodie.
Police say there are no other reports of similar incidents in the area.
