Death Of 2-Year-Old Girl Being Investigated As A Homicide
HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (WJZ) --Police have ruled the death of a Havre De Grace Toddler a homicide after they suspected something was wrong from the first 911 call.
It was at her home on the 600 block of Green Street in Havre De Grace where police suspect that 2-year-old Aubrey Hickman was abused to death.
Police were called for a child having a medical emergency and officers said, almost immediately, they noticed something wasn't right.
"The officers on the scene just noticed injuries that we knew the detectives needed to come out and investigate what was going on," said Dan Petz with Havre De Grace Police.
Aubrey was flown to Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital, where she died four days later.
An autopsy by the medical examiner's office confirmed officer's suspicions that Aubrey was a victim of child abuse.
An obituary said that she died surrounded by family and that the little girl loved baby dolls and dressing up.
Relatives told WJZ that her father lives out of state and is absolutely devastated and gave a statement that read: "She was very loved by her daddy and his family. And daddy and the rest of the family will never stop until we have justice for our sweet angel."
Aubrey's mother, Hallie Beer, who also has a son, wrote on Facebook: "I feel so lost without you here with me. I wish this was a nightmare and I could just wake up."
The nightmare for the 2-year-old's family is still far from over as police investigate her death as a homicide.
"This was just a tragic event," said Petz. "And we're going to do everything we can to get justice for Aubrey."
Police have not made any arrests in the case so far or said who the little girl lived with.
Aubrey's parents told WJZ that they are praying for the person responsible to turn themselves in.
