Homeowner Catches Burglar In Garage & Detains Him Until Police Arrive
EDGEWATER, Md. (WJZ)— An Edgewater man caught a burglar redhanded in his garage. He and a neighbor then held down the suspect until police arrived.
It happened Saturday around 2 p.m. in the 1400-block of Shesley Place in Edgewater.
The homeowner reported that he was sitting inside of his living room watching television and looked out of the window and saw a man walking on his driveway acting suspicious. The victim then walked outside of his house to look for the man, but he did not see him.
The victim then went to his garage where he found the suspect inside, holding an item inside his waist. The victim immediately stopped the suspect and threw him on the ground because he thought that the suspect was holding a weapon. The victim's wife called 911.
While his wife was on the phone with police, the victim's 8-year-old son ran to the neighbor's house to get help. The neighbor responded to help detain the suspect.
When officers arrived, they found Matthew Thomas Chrismer, being held down.
Chrismer, 29, was caught with alcohol and other items from the refrigerator in the garage of the home.
He was charged with first- and third-degree burglary.
