Hollywood Casino Perryville First In Md. To Open Table Games
PERRYVILLE, Md. (WJZ)— History is made in Maryland. For the first time ever, Las Vegas-style table games are open for business.
Kai Jackson has the grand opening at the Hollywood Casino Perryville.
The table games opened Wednesday and so did the wallets with money to play them.
The wheeling and dealing is underway at the Hollywood Casino in Perryville, Cecil County. Wednesday, table games opened to the public and gamblers had dollar signs in their eyes.
"I'm excited. I'm happy to see it finally come to Maryland," said Jim Thornton. "All the other states have had it and I'm tired of traveling out of state to gamble, to be honest with you."
Hollywood was the first casino to open in Maryland and started with some 1,100 slot machines. Now blackjack, poker, craps and roulette rule the day here as the owners hope profits will pick up.
"Once we received the license, our general manager got the approval. He gave the call to our table games manager and we were up and rolling," said Jennifer Miglionico.
There are 20 table games. Twelve feature blackjack, craps and roulette and eight tables are for poker in a private room. The casino says 24 hour a day, seven days a week operations and the new table games have allowed them to hire more than 100 employees.
"Adding table games back into the mix, now we're getting a whole new group of clientele. They were driving past us to go to Delaware 'cause they wanted table games so it can only get better from here," Miglionico said.
The casino says the amount of minimum bets on table games will be based on daily demand.
