Hogan Budgets More Money For Education, Heroin Treatment

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Larry Hogan is allocating more money for education and heroin treatment.

Hogan on Thursday announced $13.8 million in additional one-time K-12 funding, including $12.7 million for Baltimore.

It also includes $46.2 million for higher education. There is $4.7 million for the new student services support building at Morgan State University and $1.3 million to renovate a science building at Coppin State University.

Democrats had criticized the Republican governor last month, saying he was neglecting parts of the state with high minority populations like Baltimore in his budget decisions.

Sen. Nathaniel McFadden thanked Hogan on the Senate floor on Thursday. The Baltimore Democrat noted that Hogan followed through with helping the city, despite the "inaccurate and unfortunate" comments some lawmakers had made. McFadden also says Hogan "cares deeply" about Baltimore.
