Annapolis Deals With Flooding
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Marylanders are dealing with flooding across the state.
Alex DeMetrick reports some residents in Annapolis are being hit hard with floodwaters.
Annapolis is still treading water.
Ducks enjoyed the right of way on some Annapolis streets as the high water showed up Tuesday morning.
"I think we got off easy," said one resident.
The peak winds of Sandy drove water out of the harbor, away from town. It also kept water flowing and kept storm drains working.
That all reversed Tuesday morning when the wind pushed water back and the pressure blocked drains.
"The city refuses to fix the sewer. Three-fourths of this is from my floor drain," said Sveinn Storm.
Backed-up water led to a fresh round of sandbagging.
"People down here are used to it," said Mitch Gardner.
But there's also a few who are frustrated.
"It's like giving somebody a toothbrush with one bristle," Storm said.
But many are still relieved Annapolis wasn't hit by the worst of the storm.
"We dodged a bullet," said one resident.
The next high tide brings more uncertainly about whether the flooding will increase.
