Helicopter Crashes In Md.; 1 Person Hurt
DARLINGTON, Md. (AP) -- Harford County fire officials say a helicopter has sustained damage during a powering-down routine while it was on the ground in Darlington.
It happened about 5:30 p.m. Friday on Conowingo Road. Dave Williams, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association, says a small, privately owned Hughes 269C helicopter had set down on the grounds of its owner's property.
Maryland State Police say the helicopter started vibrating violently, causing damage to the aircraft.
Williams said there was no fire and the pilot of the craft was not trapped. There was a small fuel leak, he said.
The pilot, 35-year-old Steven Rindone of Middletown, Del., was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers say the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
