Heavy Rains Prompt Flash Flood Watches, Warnings In Several Md. Counties
BALTIMORE (AP/WJZ) -- Heavy rains closed some roads and downed trees in the mid-Atlantic region overnight, prompting flash flood watches and warnings for several areas in Maryland.
Meteorologist Tim Williams reports more rain is headed our way.
The National Weather Service says two to four inches of rain fell in some areas of the greater Washington D.C. area and more showers and chances of thunderstorms are possible Friday in the already saturated region.
A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Prince George's County and Montgomery County.
In Queen Anne's County, several roads were closed due to high water.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Stream rises will be slow.
A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening in several Maryland counties, including Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Harford and Howard counties.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms will continue throughout the day .
In nearby Fairfax County, fire crews were called to a swift water rescue in Alexandria after a vehicle stalled near Newington and Telegraph roads early Friday. The Fairfax County Connector suspended all south county service after flooding trapped buses in the garage.
In Montgomery County, standing water closed the ramp from River Road to the Capital Beltway until crews were able to clear debris from a storm drain.
