Heavy Rains And Flash Floods Lead To Accidents And Rescues
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Heavy rains this weekend trigger flash flooding up and down the East Coast. Emergency crews were busy Sunday rescuing drivers trapped in the rising water. And we're not out of the woods, yet.
Adam May has more.
From the Carolinas through Maryland and up to New England. A strong line of rain leads to accidents and rescues Saturday and Sunday.
In Baltimore, some intersections turned into lakes and numerous drivers had to abandon their vehicles, including one man rescued by boat on North Point Road.
Fighters had to clear storm drains off Key Highway where an underpass was closed for hours because of rising water.
The Jones Falls also raged. Business along the flood prone river like the Whole Foods in Mount Washington and Meadow Mill Athletic Club temporarily closed as a precaution.
In Harford County, investigators are trying to determine if rain may have been a factor. In this two-car accident on Route 24 and Singer Road, one person died, 5 others were hopsitalized.
New York and New Jersey also saw heavy flooding leaving some major highways closed for most of the day and drivers swimming for safety.
