Hearing Scheduled In Naval Academy Rape Case
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The U.S. Naval Academy has scheduled a misconduct hearing for a student accused of raping a female midshipman.
The academy said Thursday that Midshipman Patrick Edmond, 19, has been charged with rape and issuing a false statement. A hearing to determine whether Edmond will stand trial has been scheduled for Monday in Annapolis.
The academy says Edmond, of Jackson, Miss., was charged in March after an investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. An attorney for Edmond could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
Cmdr. Joe Carpenter, an academy spokesman, says the incident occurred in the school's dormitory in October.
The academy has assigned a personal advocate to provide support and counseling for the alleged victim.
