Head-On Collision With Deer Cause Of Fatal Owings Mills Crash
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ) — A two-car accident in Baltimore County leaves one man dead. Now we are learning more about what caused the crash involving a deer.

Baltimore County police say the only way to describe what happened is to call it a freak accident. One driver couldn't stop and the other just happened to be in the deer's path.
Just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Baltimore County police responded to a two-car crash involving a deer in Owings Mills.
Officers say a woman heading north on Garrison Forest Road hit the deer head-on.
"The deer was then thrown through the windshield of a car that was traveling in the opposite direction," said Cpl. Cathy Batton, Baltimore County Police Department.
That car, driven by 56-year-old Daniel Fisher, went off the road and crashed into a fence.
Fisher and the deer died as a result of the impact. Police are now calling what happened a freak accident.
"At this point there's no indication that anyone was doing anything wrong in this crash. Sometimes they just happen," Batton said.
This latest crash happened outside the peak months for deer accidents, which is usually in the fall during mating season. However, the Department of Natural Resources says there's also an increase of deer activity right now because deer are on the move looking for a spring home. DNR says drivers need to be aware year-round
"Be alert, aware to those places where you've seen deer in the past. If you saw them yesterday, you'll probably see them again," said Paul Peditto, DNR.
The driver who hit the deer was treated at the scene and released.
Investigators do not believe she could have avoided the collision.
"In this case the woman was unable to avoid striking the deer. She was unable to stop in time," Batton said.
While this is still an ongoing investigation, police do not believe any charges will be filed in the case.
Like any fatal accident, police plan to reconstruct the crash scene as part of their investigation.
