Halloween Seems Recession Proof At Artistic Costumes In Towson
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) — It's almost Halloween, and there are a lot of parties all over Baltimore this weekend.
If you don't have your costume yet, Ron Matz has more on a place in Towson where you can find just what you need.
Artistic Costumes in Towson has just about everything. Little kids and big kids are there hunting for Halloween.
"The rentals are about $75 to $150, but they're really high-end costumes," said Harriet Berlin, owner of Artistic Costumes. "We have a few that are cheaper and few that are more, but we have thousands of costumes."
Cara Eagan is ready to party as a firewoman.
"I'm going to a party. I love Halloween and can't wait for it every year," said Eagan, of Jarrettsville.
Baltimore sees a hot Halloween ahead, and folks are spending their money.
"Recession doesn't seem to be a problem when it comes to Halloween," Berlin said. "People want that one day to party. This is their special day. Some people care about the money, but most people are just out to have a good time and dress up wild."
A little lipstick is needed to dress up as the Black Swan, a bird like no other.
"We've been deluged for Black Swan costumes. Last year, Draculas were dead. This year, they're alive again. Lots of fangs and lots of blood and zombies are number one. Everybody wants to be a zombie this year. It's an easy costume, and we have all the special make-up to do it," said Berlin.
Sometimes Halloween isn't pretty, but it sure is a lot of fun.
"We do Halloween every year," said Annie Boes of Dundalk. "We're going down to Fells Point and probably just hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. We celebrate every year. We always do something for Halloween."
The National Retail Federation estimates consumers will spend $6.9 billion on Halloween this year. That's up 18 percent from last year.
