Hail To The Chief? O'Malley To Announce If He's Running For President
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- After months of travel and national media attention, former Maryland governor Martin O'Malley is set to make a big announcement. Saturday, we will learn if he plans to make a run for the White House.
Political reporter Pat Warren takes a look at the preparations.
If there was ever a question that he would run, all you have to do is look at the scene he's setting.
Federal Hill is the setting for a political landscape that puts Martin O'Malley in the race for the White House.
"I have the experience through 15 years of public service as an executive in a big city and also as a governor of the state of getting things done," O'Malley said on ABC's This Week.
"I guided our state through this recession, and I did so with results," said O'Malley on Face the Nation.
And by the end of last year, without officially announcing, O'Malley had successfully positioned himself in the pack behind Hillary Clinton.
"Hillary kicked things off by going completely unrecognized at a Chipotle. Not to be outdone, Martin O'Malley kicked things off by going completely unrecognized at a Martin O'Malley campaign event," President Obama quipped at the 2015 White House Correspondents' Dinner.
O'Malley's first official event is expected Saturday. And although he won't say until then, he lets his music speak for him in this little bit on YouTube...
"Hail to the Chief" -- can't get a broader hint than that.
When the former governor leaves Federal Hill Saturday, he'll be heading to Iowa, presumably as an official candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
After Iowa, O'Malley heads to New Hampshire.
