Hagerstown Pharmacist Sentenced For Billing Unlawful Prescriptions
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Hagerstown pharmacist has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for improperly billing Medicare and Medicaid more than $200,000 for unlawful prescriptions for oxycodone and methadone.
David Russo, 62, was also ordered to pay restitution and surrender his pharmacy license at sentencing Thursday in federal court in Baltimore.
According to his plea agreement, Russo owned and operated Russo's Rx. Russo filled prescriptions for oxycodone, methadone and benzodiazepines that he knew were issued outside of the legitimate medical course and fraudulently billed Medicare and Medicaid for those prescriptions.
