Hagerstown Offers Civil War Walking Tour
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The city of Hagerstown is offering a self-guided walking tour of significant Civil War sites.
The city announced publication of the free guide on Friday.
It consists of two maps. One points out 50 historical markers and other notable sites within the city.
The other map is a guide to Rose Hill Cemetery. It shows the final resting places of more than 70 significant Civil War figures. It also maps the graves of past Hagerstown mayors and other folks of historical interest.
Rose Hill Cemetery includes a state-sponsored Confederate burial site where the remains of nearly 2,500 Southern soldiers were interred.
The cemetery paid for the design and production of the first 5,000 guides.
